At the Wayne County Dog Shelter, our mission is to provide safe, compassionate care for dogs in need, to reunite lost pets with their families, and to promote humane, responsible communities. We believe in compassion with accountability, ensuring every dog receives the empathy and dignity they deserve while they await their forever home.
Since opening our doors in September 2015, we have served as a county-operated facility dedicated to the welfare of stray dogs throughout Wayne County, Ohio. Our work is made possible by the support of our community through dog licenses and donations, allowing us to act as a trusted resource for animal care, safety, and education.
We are proud to be a no-kill facility, maintaining a positive placement rate of over 90% and refusing to euthanize for space or length of stay. Our facility features indoor/outdoor kennels, blankets, toys, and five large play yards where our team works daily on socialization and enrichment. Every dog in our care receives comprehensive medical attention, including vaccinations, microchipping, and heartworm prevention, ensuring they are healthy and ready to join your family.
Adopting a dog is a life-changing, joyful partnership, and our dedicated team is here to guide you every step of the way to find the perfect match. We believe that an informed adoption leads to the best outcomes, so we provide support and guidance to help you and your new companion transition smoothly into your life together.
We invite you to explore our adoptable dogs online or visit us at our Wooster location to meet our wonderful residents in person. Whether you are ready to adopt, interested in volunteering, or want to contribute to our mission, we welcome your support in creating a community where every dog is valued and safe.
