Our Mission to Protect

The Pennsylvania SPCA is dedicated to protecting animals, preventing cruelty, and improving the health and quality of life for pets throughout the Commonwealth. Every day, we work to ensure that every animal we encounter receives a second chance at a happy, healthy life.

A Legacy of Compassion

For 150 years, the PSPCA has been a steadfast advocate for animals, operating with boots on the ground 365 days a year. While we are an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit—not formally affiliated with other national organizations—our impact is deeply rooted in the communities we serve. We proudly operate through multiple physical locations across the state, including centers in Philadelphia, Danville, and Lancaster, as well as the specialized care provided at Main Line Animal Rescue.

How We Care for Our Animals

Our work is powered by a commitment to high-quality medical and behavioral care. As one of Philadelphia's largest no-kill shelters, we maintain an incredibly high save rate, ensuring that our animals receive the specialized attention and medical evaluation they need while they wait for their forever homes. Beyond our shelter walls, our Animal Law Enforcement department actively works across 18 counties to enforce cruelty laws and provide a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
