Safe Animal Shelter is dedicated to providing a safe haven for homeless pets while working toward a future where every companion animal is treated with compassion and respect. We strive to reduce the number of cats and dogs euthanized in Clay County and the surrounding Northeast Florida areas.
Established in 1991 as Clay County’s first no-kill shelter, we have spent decades providing a bridge between homelessness and a loving forever home. We envision a community where all pets are cherished members of the family, and our work is driven by the belief that rescue is our favorite breed.
Our shelter in Middleburg provides a high standard of care, including medical treatment, socialization, and nutritious meals for every animal that comes through our doors. To ensure the long-term success of our pets, we perform spay or neuter surgeries, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchipping prior to adoption. Beyond our facility, our dedicated foster care program allows us to provide temporary, specialized homes for animals needing extra recovery time or individual attention.
Adoption is a beautiful, life-long partnership that we take very seriously. By carefully matching each pet with the right family, we aim to ensure that both the human and animal thrive in their new life together. We invite you to meet with our adoption counselors, who are here to help you find an animal whose size, age, and energy level perfectly align with your lifestyle.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to browse our current list of adoptable dogs and cats online or visit our shelter in Middleburg to meet our residents in person. Together, we can continue to create a compassionate community for all of our four-legged friends.
