At AuSable Valley Animal Shelter, our mission is simple yet profound: we are dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and successful rehoming of homeless and abandoned dogs and cats. We believe that every animal deserves a second chance at a happy, healthy life, and we are proud to serve as a safe haven for those in need.
Our journey began with deep roots in the 1970s, leading to the formation of our independent nonprofit organization in 1992. After years of dedicated work, we moved into our current home in Grayling in 2007, where we have continued to evolve as the AuSable Valley Animal Shelter. We are a 100% non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that relies entirely on the generosity of our community through donations and grants.
As a no-kill facility, we prioritize compassionate care and responsible adoption practices for every guest in our shelter. Beyond serving our local community, we actively partner with high-risk shelters by transferring animals from overcrowded or under-resourced facilities. This outreach helps alleviate pressure on other organizations while providing more animals with the opportunity to find their perfect, permanent home.
We believe that adoption is a joyful journey, and we take great pride in our track record of successful matches. By getting to know the unique personalities of our cats and dogs, we ensure that every adoption supports a lasting, loving bond between pets and their new families. When you choose to adopt from us, you are not just gaining a companion; you are becoming an essential part of our rescue mission.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to view our list of adoptable guests online or visit us at our Fairground Lane facility to experience the magic of a shelter pet firsthand.
