Our Mission
Paws and Claws Pet Shelter is dedicated to providing safe harbor for abandoned pets while working tirelessly to find them loving, permanent homes. We believe in the power of community, working together to ensure every animal in Madison County receives the care and second chance they deserve.
Our Story
Our journey began in the late 1980s as a grassroots effort by citizens concerned about stray cats and dogs in Madison County. In 1997, we became a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, and thanks to the incredible support of local donors, craftsmen, and volunteers, our physical shelter building became a reality in 1998. We officially adopted the name Paws and Claws Pet Shelter in 2014, continuing our long-standing commitment to animal welfare.
How We Operate
We operate as a community-focused organization that relies on the dedication of our staff, board members, and foster network to save lives. Beyond our shelter facility, we are proud to offer low-cost spay/neuter clinics and free vaccine clinics to keep pets healthy and in their homes. Our work is powered entirely by the generosity of our supporters, as we receive no funding from state or local governments.
