The Humane Society of New York is dedicated to reducing animal suffering and homelessness by providing high-quality care for animals with diverse needs. We believe that every animal deserves a safe place to lay their head at night.
Founded in 1904 to provide aid to the city's working horses, we have spent over a century evolving to meet the changing needs of animals in our community. Today, we continue our legacy of innovation by providing comprehensive support to dogs and cats in need.
Operating as a no-kill shelter, our facility is home to the Vladimir Horowitz and Wanda Toscanini Horowitz Adoption Center, where animals face no time limits on their stay. Our integrated, full-service veterinary hospital ensures that every resident receives expert medical attention 365 days a year, allowing them the time they need to heal physically and emotionally.
We are committed to finding the perfect match between our animals and their new families through careful screening and thoughtful introductions. Once you adopt, you become part of our family; our Director of Animal Behavior & Training provides ongoing guidance to support your new pet, and we always welcome our alumni back home should your circumstances change.
