Our Mission
The Humane Society of Fremont County is dedicated to ending animal homelessness and providing essential care, comfort, and safety to companion animals in need. We operate with the firm belief that Where Every Life Matters, providing a second chance to the dogs and cats who need it most.
A Legacy of Compassion
Established in 1950 by Ralph J. Wann, our organization has spent over seven decades serving the Fremont and Custer County communities. Founded in memory of Mr. Wann’s beloved dog, Tippy, our roots are firmly planted in the belief that our lives are enriched by the care we provide to the vulnerable animals in our care.
How We Serve
As an independent, non-profit, open-admission shelter, we are committed to helping every animal that comes through our doors regardless of breed, age, or medical condition. We rely on the generous support of our community—including grants, donations, and fundraising—to maintain our facility and provide vital services such as veterinary care, pet food pantries, and microchipping. We are proud to operate as a no-kill shelter, saving every healthy and treatable animal while ensuring they receive the highest standard of care.
