Sunrise Center Animal Rescue is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need, with a special focus on vulnerable and at-risk cats. Every rescue is a meaningful step toward a brighter, more humane tomorrow.
Our Story
Founded by Karen Hemza, our organization grew from a commitment to providing intervention and rehabilitation for pets in need within Kankakee County. We believe the key to ending the cycle of unwanted and discarded pets is through increased access to low-cost spay and neuter services, pet food distribution, and community education.
How We Care
We work tirelessly to provide compassionate care and a safe shelter environment for our cats until they find their perfect forever families. While we primarily focus on feline rescue, we also utilize a dedicated network of foster homes to care for animals with special needs or circumstances. Our team manages every aspect of care, including medical treatment, to ensure each animal is ready for their next chapter.
