The Caloosa Humane Society is dedicated to serving, sheltering, and protecting the homeless pets in our care. We strive to provide a compassionate, no-kill environment where every companion animal can find a permanent and loving forever home.
Our story began in August 2001, born from the vision of Cornelius 'Kees' Huijer, who sought to help the forsaken pets of rural Hendry and Glades counties. His legacy lives on today through our no-kill facility, which operates independently as a 501(c)(3) organization without federal or state funding, relying entirely on the generosity of our community.
As a no-kill shelter, we provide comprehensive care for animals who are lost, abandoned, or injured, ensuring they are rehabilitated until they are ready for adoption. Our commitment extends beyond the shelter walls, as we offer a full-service veterinary clinic and low-cost spay/neuter services to the public. By choosing our clinic for your own pet’s care, you directly support the homeless animals waiting in our adoption center.
Our friendly adoption staff is committed to helping you find the perfect match for your family. Every pet in our care undergoes thorough health and temperament screenings, and we ensure they are vaccinated, micro-chipped, and spayed or neutered before going home with you. We believe adoption is a beautiful partnership that saves two lives: the animal you welcome into your home and the one who takes their place in our shelter.
Are you ready to give a shelter pet a second chance at life? We invite you to view our available animals online or visit our adoption center on Pratt Blvd in LaBelle to meet your new best friend in person. Together, we can ensure every pet in our community finds a safe and happy home.
