Hope For Life Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to rescuing abandoned, injured, abused, and neglected dogs and cats. We believe that every life deserves care, compassion, and a second chance at happiness.
Founded in 2002 by Pauline Cushman, our organization grew from a personal calling to serve those most overlooked. We were intentionally named Hope For Life Rescue to reflect our belief that our work is a broader ministry of compassion, touching the lives of animals and the people who help them.
Unlike traditional shelters, we operate as a hands-on rescue with a physical facility in Virginia Beach, while also relying on a vital network of foster homes. This flexible approach allows us to save about 1,200 animals annually, including those with serious medical needs that might not be met elsewhere. We never euthanize for space or time, maintaining a 96% to 98% save rate.
We are deeply committed to ensuring a safe, sustainable match based on your lifestyle, support system, and long-term planning. Through our home visit trial period, we offer you the time and space to ensure your new companion is truly the perfect fit for your family. We see every adoption as a joyful partnership that changes both a pet's life and yours forever.
Are you ready to welcome a new friend into your home? We invite you to view our available animals online or visit our facility on Jack Rabbit Road to meet our residents in person. Join us in making a difference—one life at a time.
