Our History and Our Mission
Founded in 1975, Open Door Animal Sanctuary has grown to become the largest no-kill shelter in the greater St. Louis area and the State of Missouri. For nearly 50 years, we have provided hope, help, and healing to tens of thousands of animals by taking in stray, neglected, and otherwise unwanted cats and dogs.
Providing Comfort and Care
We are proud to operate a no-kill facility where we provide shelter, nutritious food, and expert medical care to more than 350 animals every single day. Our residents enjoy a largely cage-free living environment, including cozy kennels with climate control and specialized catteries designed to keep them happy and comfortable while they wait for their new families. Beyond the sanctuary, our foster program allows us to provide additional support to animals needing a quiet home to heal or grow.
