The South Suburban Humane Society is dedicated to creating a better world for pets and the people who love them throughout the Metro Chicago region. We are committed to sheltering animals in need while actively promoting the human-pet bond through our comprehensive adoption and community support services.
Our journey began in 1970 when a small group of volunteers started taking in homeless pets to find them permanent homes. Today, we have evolved into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating a 19,000-square-foot state-of-the-art animal resource campus in Matteson, IL.
We pride ourselves on a culture of heart, grit, and tenacity, where our dedicated team works tirelessly to provide rehabilitation and medical care for every animal in our shelter. We also rely on a robust foster network, with over 1,500 pets cared for in foster homes annually, ensuring every animal gets the specialized attention they need to thrive before finding their forever family.
We believe in transparent, compassionate matching that prioritizes the well-being of both the pet and the adopter. By providing high-impact, low-cost spay/neuter and veterinary services, we aim to support you long after your new companion arrives home. Our team is here to guide you through a joyful, stress-free adoption process that celebrates the unique connection between you and your new family member.
