At Our Companions Animal Rescue, our mission is to advocate for animals in need by engaging compassionate people to provide innovative, life-saving community programs. We promise to always do the right thing for animals and the people who love them.
Rooted in Compassion
Our journey began in 2002 when a generous gift of 43 acres in Ashford, Connecticut, allowed us to create a unique sanctuary dedicated to our community’s most vulnerable animals. While our sanctuary serves as a place of rest and recovery for pets facing medical or behavioral challenges, our outreach extends throughout the region to help keep pets and families together.
Our Approach to Care
We operate differently than traditional shelters by providing a home-like, low-stress environment where animals receive personalized care for as long as they need to heal. Beyond the sanctuary, our Valerie Friedman Program Center in Manchester serves as a vital hub for community support, offering behavioral training, veterinary assistance, and professional guidance to ensure pets thrive in their homes.
