ARF (Humane Society of Jackson County) is dedicated to improving the lives of dogs and their owners in Jackson County, NC, through compassionate rescue, fostering, and community-focused support. We believe in creating second chances and keeping families together through accessible, high-quality care.
A Legacy of Compassion
Founded in 1978 by a group of friends determined to help local animals, we have spent decades working to reduce pet overpopulation and ensure every dog has a safe, loving place to call home. Today, our 501(c)(3) nonprofit continues this commitment by partnering with local organizations to make essential services like spay and neuter programs affordable and accessible for all.
Our Foster-Based Model
ARF operates as a dedicated network of volunteers rather than a physical shelter. Because our dogs live in caring foster homes until they are adopted, they receive the individual attention, socialization, and structure they need to thrive. We provide the food, medical care, and supplies, while our foster families provide the love and stability that prepare each dog for a successful transition to their forever home.
