Founded in 1941, SAVE - A Friend to Homeless Animals is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to protecting the health and welfare of homeless companion animals. We believe every pet deserves a chance to flourish and are committed to building, fostering, and strengthening the human-animal bond throughout the greater Princeton area and beyond.
Our History and Mission
Our roots trace back to Dr. Cornelia Jaynes, a pioneering veterinarian who dedicated her life to rescuing strays and providing care regardless of a client's ability to pay. Following her legacy, we continue to ensure that animals facing adversity are given a lifeline and the promise of a better tomorrow. Today, our community-supported shelter serves as a safe haven where we provide expert care to homeless pets until they find their forever families.
How We Care
As an independent organization that does not receive federal, state, or local funding, we rely on the generous support of our community to operate our facility in Skillman, New Jersey. We are proud to maintain a no-kill status, operating a limited-admission shelter where residents receive the medical treatment, nutrition, and behavioral support they need. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers works tirelessly to ensure every animal is treated with the dignity and love they deserve.

The township’s annual fireworks show is scheduled for June 25 at Montgomery High School. While many look forward to dazzling color displays and deafening flashbangs, some are bracing for the damage it causes to their livestock and the anxiety it inflicts on pets — not to mention some war veterans.
