Our Mission
The Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center (SPARC) is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing animals in need while providing compassionate care and community education. We are proud to be the first and only no-kill animal shelter in Ventura County.
Our Story
Born from a community conversation in June 2011, SPARC was founded by a committed group of animal advocates with one non-negotiable condition: that our shelter would be no-kill. Since opening in 2012, we have remained true to that promise, ensuring no healthy, adoptable animal is ever euthanized due to lack of space or treatable conditions.
A Community-Driven Model
SPARC serves as a unique partnership between public and private resources to create a more humane system for homeless animals. By acting as a community-based, non-profit center, we provide a safe haven for stray and abandoned animals while actively promoting the importance of spay/neuter and vaccination programs to address the root causes of pet overpopulation.
Building Lifelong Bonds
We believe every pet deserves a second chance at a loving, forever home. Our knowledgeable staff works diligently to match our wonderful animals with the perfect family, ensuring both the pet and the adopter find a joyful, lasting partnership. All our adoptable animals are microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, and spayed or neutered to ensure they are ready for their new life.

7/14 - Should Bruce the Dog Get a Second Chance After Ventura County Euthanasia Fight?
A legal battle is unfolding over Bruce, a two-year-old German Shepherd mix who Ventura County Animal Services sought to euthanize after bite incidents involving previous owners. The rescue organization that previously owned Bruce says it was never notified about the hearing and is fighting for another chance for a dog the shelter itself described as a model citizen.
