The Helen O. Krause Animal Foundation, Inc. (HOKAFI) is dedicated to providing a safe, no-kill refuge for abandoned, abused, and stray cats and dogs. We believe that every animal deserves a future filled with dignity, kindness, and the security of a loving home.
Founded by the late Helen Opperman Krause, our organization carries forward a legacy rooted in a lifelong, mystical devotion to animals. Following a period of uncertainty in 1982, Helen established this foundation in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, ensuring that even in difficult times, our animal friends would always have a place of safety and care.
Today, our shelter is run primarily by a dedicated corps of volunteers and a volunteer Board of Directors, ensuring our resources go directly to the well-being of our residents. Set on two acres of landscaped grounds, our facility features a state-of-the-art main cat shelter, an annex, and a dog kennel, all maintained to provide comfort while our animals wait for their forever families.
We believe that adoption is a joyful partnership, and our thoughtful matching process helps ensure the perfect fit for your household and our animals. Because we get to know each pet’s personality, we take the time to introduce you and your family to ensure everyone is set up for a happy, lifelong success story. Whether you are looking for a gentle senior or a playful companion, we are here to guide you toward your new best friend.
We invite you to explore our current adoptable dogs and cats or learn how you can support our work through volunteering, membership, or our Guardian Angel program.
