Our Mission
The Brandywine Valley SPCA strives to end animal suffering and empower communities to find the heart in humanity. We are dedicated to putting the human back in humane animal treatment and advocating on behalf of the animals who need us most.
Our History and Purpose
Founded in 1929, we have grown to become the largest animal welfare organization in the region, serving communities across Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and Washington, DC. We exist to involve our entire community in the well-being of animals and to ensure every pet is treated with respect and dignity.
How We Care
As one of the region's only remaining open-access shelters, we provide safety, love, and hope to lost, abandoned, and homeless pets. We pride ourselves on being the first open-admission no-kill shelter in Pennsylvania and Delaware, and we helped lead Delaware to become the nation's first no-kill state.
Every dog and cat in our care enjoys individual enrichment, such as daily playgroups, until they find their forever home. We also support families by providing low-cost veterinary services and programs that help keep pets with the people who love them, even during challenging times.
