The Community Humane Shelter of Steuben County is dedicated to providing compassionate care for all animals in our county. Our mission is to support the thousands of animals that come through our doors each year, ensuring every pet receives the love and medical attention they deserve while finding their way to a forever home.
Founded in 1972, our organization has grown from a small operation at the local sewage plant into a cornerstone of animal welfare in Steuben County. After decades of service, we opened our current climate-controlled facility in 2017 thanks to the overwhelming generosity and support of our local community. This modern space allows us to provide the highest standard of care while prioritizing the health and safety of every animal in our keep.
Each year, we provide shelter and support to over 2,000 animals, including lost pets and those in need of a fresh start. We are committed to transparency in our care, ensuring that every adopted animal is spayed or neutered and fully vaccinated. Beyond shelter, we work hard to keep pets in their homes by providing a community food pantry and offering resources to help families manage behavioral or medical challenges.
Adoption is a joyful partnership, and we take great care to match our dogs and cats with their perfect human companions. By focusing on individual needs and personalities, we help create lasting bonds that enrich the lives of both the pet and the adopter. We invite you to be a part of this journey by meeting the wonderful animals currently waiting for a family to call their own.
Ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to view our adoptable animals online or visit us at our Angola facility to see our work in action. Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer your time, or support our mission through donations, we are so grateful to have you as part of our community.
