Our History and Our Mission
Founded in 1903 by a local Methodist group, we have spent over a century evolving alongside the needs of our community. From our historic Raymond Avenue campus, which has served as a center for animal welfare since 1914, we continue our commitment to helping the animals and the people who love them throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area.
How We Care for Our Animals
We are a socially conscious animal shelter that takes a holistic approach to care, making appropriate, individualized decisions for every animal. Our facility provides a safe and supportive environment for thousands of animals each year, supported by dedicated medical, behavior, and adoption programs. By integrating services like pet food pantries and behavioral resources, we strive to keep pets in their homes whenever possible, ensuring our shelter space remains open for those who truly need it.

5/9 - Pup Reunited with Dog Dad 15 Months After L.A. Wildfires Burned Down Their Home: ‘There Wasn’t a Dry Eye in the Room’
Dominic and his dog, Blade, escaped the deadly Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, but their home was destroyed. The pet owner placed his ‘cuddly lab mix’ in an animal shelter for emergency boarding while he searched for a new home. They reunited 15 months later.
