At Alexander County Animal Services, our mission is to provide care, custody, and support for the animals in our community while connecting them with loving, lifelong families. We believe every dog and cat deserves a place to call home and are dedicated to making that happen through our commitment to professional care and compassionate matching.
Since opening our dedicated facility on Waggin’ Trail in 2002, we have served as a central hub for animal welfare in Alexander County. Our team works hard to enforce state and county laws while providing a safe, clean space for animals who find themselves in our care while they wait for their next chapter.
Our shelter facility provides a safe, 3,500 square-foot space where our team works daily to ensure every resident receives proper attention and care. We are transparent about our capacity and the realities of shelter life, focusing our resources on providing medical support, including a low-cost spay and neuter program in partnership with local veterinarians. By focusing on each animal's unique personality and needs, we ensure they are prepared for a successful transition into your home.
Adoption is a joyful journey, and we are here to help you find the perfect companion for your lifestyle. Whether you are looking for a hiking partner or a snuggle buddy, our staff is ready to help you navigate our adoption process with care and attention. Because we want every placement to be a permanent success, we encourage families to thoughtfully consider the lifetime commitment of pet ownership.
