The Humane Society of North Iowa is dedicated to providing temporary shelter, food, medical attention, and comfort to displaced and neglected companion animals. We believe in the power of education and community support to reduce animal overpopulation and ensure every pet finds a loving home.
A Legacy of Kindness
Our organization began in 1959 when Alice Anne Blackmore started rescuing animals on her farm. Over 65 years later, we have grown into a state-of-the-art facility, continuing Alice Anne’s inspiring legacy of providing care, kindness, and mercy to those who need it most.
How We Provide Care
Operating as a no-kill shelter in Mason City, we provide a safe haven for nearly 100 displaced and stray animals at any given time. Our team and dedicated volunteers offer essential medical care, grooming, and social enrichment to ensure every animal is prepared for their transition to a new family. Through our partnership with the Mason City Stray Animal Shelter, we also work tirelessly to reunite lost pets with their owners.
