Our Mission
The Humane Society of Northwest Iowa is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the ethical and humane treatment of all animals. We proudly serve Dickinson, Clay, Emmet, Palo Alto, O'Brien, and Osceola counties by providing care, housing, and rehabilitation for animals in need while promoting responsible pet ownership.
A History of Compassion
Our journey began in 1987 when concerned neighbors organized to care for homeless pets. Following years of foster-based care, we opened our own facility in 1996, eventually expanding with the addition of the Weaver Cattery in 1999. Today, we stand as a proud no-kill shelter committed to giving every animal a second chance at a happy life.
Our Approach to Care
We believe in providing a safe, nurturing environment for all our residents. Our facility includes dedicated spaces for dogs and cats, meet-and-greet rooms for social bonding, and an on-site surgery suite to ensure our animals receive timely veterinary care. Beyond our walls, we strive to enrich the community through our outreach programs, including pet therapy visits and our dedicated Barn Cat and Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) initiatives.
