At Ark-Valley Humane Society, we are dedicated to ensuring the welfare of all companion animals through compassion and care. Our vision is to foster a safe, humane world where every pet is treated with the kindness they deserve.
Founded in 1991, our organization was born from a community need to provide better care for local strays in Buena Vista. From those early beginnings, we have grown into a 501(c)(3) non-profit that proudly serves all of Chaffee County.
We believe in social-conscious sheltering, which means we work tirelessly to ensure every animal is treated with dignity and respect. We operate an open-admission shelter, and we are proud to say that we do not euthanize animals for reasons of time or space, with 95% or more of our shelter animals saved annually.
We know that every pet is unique, and we take pride in working alongside you to find the purr-fect addition to your family. Our team is here to support you throughout the process, from our initial meet-and-greets to providing tips for a smooth transition as your new friend settles into their forever home.
Whether you are ready to meet your new best friend or want to support our mission, we invite you to connect with us. Browse our adoptable animals online, submit an application, or visit us at our Buena Vista shelter to see the lives we are changing together every day.
