Our Mission
PAWS (Protection of Animals in Wakefield Society, Inc.) is dedicated to promoting and protecting the well-being of all domestic animals and wildlife through compassionate rescue, education, and community support.
Our History and Community
Founded in 1982 by activist humanitarian Esther Nowell, our all-volunteer organization has spent decades addressing the unique animal welfare needs of Wakefield and the surrounding communities. We believe that when a community steps up, we can create a safer, kinder world for pets and the families who love them.
How We Help
We operate as an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) organization with a strong feline foster network. Our team facilitates adoptions, manages community cat programs, and provides a vital pet food pantry to ensure that families can keep their beloved companions at home during times of economic hardship.
