Our Mission
The Humane Society of Independence County is a dedicated, no-kill nonprofit organization committed to helping you find your next furry family member while providing care for animals across our beautiful county. We believe every homeless dog, puppy, cat, and kitten deserves a permanent, loving home.
Why We Are Here
Established as a 501(c)3 non-profit, we work independently to rescue stray and injured animals within our community. Because we receive no government funding, we rely entirely on the generosity of our supporters and our thrift store, Fleaman Barkus, to continue our life-saving mission. Our goal is to reduce the homeless pet population through education, awareness, and by encouraging spaying and neutering.
How We Provide Care
We operate a no-kill shelter in Batesville, Arkansas, where we provide temporary care for up to 100 dogs and 50 cats at any given time. Beyond our physical facility, we maintain a vital foster program that provides a home environment for animals who find shelter life distressing, helping them prepare for their future families. By combining professional shelter care with compassionate foster homes, we ensure every animal receives the attention they need to thrive.
