At West End Shelter for Animals, our mission is to provide a compassionate, no-kill haven for pets in need, ensuring every animal receives dedicated care until they find a permanent, loving home. We are committed to fostering a community where pets are supported through every stage of their journey toward a happy life.
Our journey began in June 1954 when local residents formed the Humane Society of Chaffey Community to offer a more humane solution for stray populations. Over the decades, we have evolved significantly, officially adopting a no-kill policy in the late 80s and early 90s to become the sanctuary for animals in Ontario, California, that we are today.
We operate as a dedicated center where pets in our care stay with us safely until they are adopted or pass away from natural causes. Unlike foster-based models, our facility provides a consistent, stable environment for every animal, supported by our staff and a group of dedicated volunteers who ensure our residents are well-cared for daily.
Adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are here to make that process as smooth as possible for you. We focus on matching each animal with a family that fits their specific needs and lifestyle, providing transparent resources and support to ensure a successful transition for both the pet and their new home.
Your new best friend is waiting for you! We invite you to visit our shelter in Ontario during business hours to meet our adoptable pets, or explore our website to learn more about our low-cost vaccination services and volunteer opportunities. Join us in our mission to celebrate and support animal welfare every single day.
