The Santa Ynez Valley Humane Society and Dog Adoption and Welfare Group (SYVHS/DAWG) is dedicated to serving our community by promoting the humane, compassionate, and conscientious care of companion animals. We provide vital resources to prevent animal overpopulation and strive to ensure every animal has the chance for a brighter future.
Established in 1979 as the oldest animal welfare organization in northern Santa Barbara County, our roots began with a small group of volunteers committed to protecting local pets. In 2020, we joined forces with the Dog Adoption and Welfare Group to combine our unique strengths and resources, allowing us to expand our impact and reach even more animals in need.
Operating from our dedicated facility in Buellton, our 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization provides a safe haven for cats and dogs while they await their forever families. We are supported by a passionate Board of Directors and a community of volunteers who ensure our shelter remains a place of healing, care, and hope. Our facility includes a fully equipped veterinary clinic, allowing us to offer essential medical services and spay/neuter programs that improve the lives of animals throughout the Santa Ynez Valley.
We believe that every adoption is the beginning of a meaningful partnership, and we are dedicated to making sure every match is the right fit for both the pet and the adopter. Our professional staff works closely with you to understand your lifestyle and needs, ensuring a successful, lasting relationship. By prioritizing thoughtful introductions, we create an environment where pets can thrive and families can grow together.
We invite you to discover your new best friend by viewing our live, real-time list of adoptable animals on our website. To ensure the best experience for our animals and guests, we operate by appointment and recommend filling out an online application before you visit. We look forward to welcoming you to our shelter and helping you find the perfect companion.
