Our Mission

The Society of Humane Friends of Georgia, Inc. is a licensed 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming dogs and cats. We believe every animal deserves a loving, permanent home and a fresh start.

Our History and Purpose

Since our incorporation in 1998, we have been committed to helping animals in need within the Lawrenceville, Georgia area. We work to address the community challenge of unwanted litters and abandoned pets by taking in animals from local county shelters and accepting owner surrenders on a space-available basis.

Our Compassionate Care Model

We are a unique, foster-based rescue, meaning all of our adoptable animals live in loving volunteer homes rather than a traditional shelter facility. This allows us to get to know each pet's personality in a real-world setting while ensuring they are fully vetted and evaluated before they meet you. By prioritizing this home-based approach, we provide a comfortable, stress-free environment for our rescues as they wait for their forever families.

We believe that adoption is a lifelong partnership, which is why we carefully screen all potential adopters to ensure the best possible match between human and animal. Our goal is to create joyful, successful adoptions that last a lifetime. Because we are a volunteer-run organization, all meetings and adoptions are scheduled by appointment at our Adoption Center in downtown Lawrenceville.
