Our Mission
The Humane Society of Freeborn County is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to preventing animal cruelty, promoting responsible pet ownership, and placing adoptable animals into loving, permanent homes. We believe that by working together, we can control pet overpopulation and build a kinder community for every animal in our care.
Our Story
Since our founding in 1976 by a passionate group of animal lovers, we have evolved from a small fund into a dedicated force for local welfare. Our path led us to a successful partnership with the city, transforming the local shelter into a no-kill facility where animals receive the veterinary attention, vaccinations, and spay or neuter surgeries they deserve before finding their new families.
How We Care
We operate as a committed, donation-based organization, providing a safe haven for animals in need while actively maintaining a network of foster homes for those who need extra care, such as nursing mothers and kittens. By working with the city and our local community, we ensure that every animal has a second chance at a happy life. Our facility is currently open by appointment, allowing us to focus on the individual needs of each pet and their future owners.
