The Arizona Animal Welfare League is dedicated to providing excellent care, protection, and loving compassion for the animals entrusted to us. We take a leadership role in promoting humane values for the benefit of both animals and our community.
A Legacy of Compassion
Founded in 1971 by a group of concerned animal lovers led by Amanda Blake, we have grown over the past 50 years into Arizona's oldest and largest no-kill shelter. Our organization was born from a simple desire to help, and today, we remain committed to that founding vision of providing a safe haven for those who need it most.
Our Care Model
As a 501c3 non-profit, we rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home more than 4,000 cats and dogs each year. Our unique approach combines a dedicated shelter environment with an extensive foster network of approximately 90 families, ensuring that every animal receives the socialization and medical care they require before finding their permanent home.
