Animal Welfare Friends is dedicated to helping cats and dogs in need through sheltering, veterinary care, adoption education, and community outreach. We strive to provide every pet with a peaceful, safe, and healthy life while working to end the euthanization of abandoned and homeless animals.
Our journey began in the summer of 2002, when two stray dogs wandered onto an Oxford Mills property, eventually leading to the founding of our organization in 2003. Since then, we have grown into a 501(c)(3) non-profit, serving as a beacon of hope for abandoned, abused, and neglected animals throughout Eastern and Northeastern Iowa.
As a dedicated no-kill shelter located just north of Monticello, we pride ourselves on providing a high standard of care. Our facility features free-roam cat rooms with large windows and comfortable indoor and outdoor spaces for our dogs, supported by a network of compassionate volunteers and foster families who give our residents a much-needed break from shelter life.
We believe that adopting a pet is a beautiful, life-changing decision that deserves careful consideration. Our team focuses on understanding the unique personality of each dog or cat, ensuring we make a perfect match that lasts for the lifetime of the animal. By prioritizing temperament and lifestyle fit, we help create lasting bonds between our residents and their new, loving families.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to view our available dogs and cats on our website or visit us at our Monticello shelter to see firsthand the difference your support makes. Together, we can continue to provide second chances and warm, forever homes for the animals who need them most.
