The Humane Society of North Central Florida is dedicated to eliminating the needless euthanasia of healthy and treatable pets in our region. We believe every animal deserves a genuine second chance at a happy life.
Formed in 2018 by the merger of several long-standing local rescue organizations, we combined our strengths to better serve pets and their owners in Alachua County. With over 50 years of collective experience, we have streamlined our resources to build a sustainable, no-kill community for North Central Florida.
As a private, independent 501(c)(3) organization, we operate a limited-intake, no-kill rescue shelter. Our dedicated team and foster network care for animals transferred from municipal shelters, providing them with comprehensive medical attention, behavioral support, and daily enrichment. We are fully funded by our generous donors, community volunteers, and thrift store supporters.
We believe in creating lifetime matches between pets and the people who love them. Our compassionate adoption team is here to guide you through a transparent, supportive process, ensuring you find the perfect companion for your family. We focus on getting to know each animal's unique personality and history to ensure a successful, lasting connection.
Are you ready to welcome a new member into your home? We invite you to browse our current list of adoptable cats and dogs on our website or visit our campus in Gainesville to meet our wonderful animals. Your decision to adopt not only changes one life forever, it helps us continue our vital work for the next animal in need.
