The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals through education, law enforcement, intervention, and advocacy. We believe that every animal is a living creature entitled to legal, moral, and ethical protection.
Since 1877, we have served the Southern California community as an independent, nonprofit organization. We are not affiliated with any national SPCA or umbrella group, meaning our efforts to protect animals are fueled entirely by the generous support of individuals and foundations right here in Los Angeles.
We focus on providing high-quality care that emphasizes the well-being of every guest in our shelters. Through a blend of dedicated staff, volunteer support, and foster programs, we provide each animal with personalized veterinary care, behavioral training, and enrichment activities designed to reduce stress. Our goal is to ensure that while pets are with us, they live in a supportive environment as they wait for their new families.
We believe the best adoption experience comes from thoughtful, personalized matching between you and your new pet. Our professional adoption counselors are here to help you find an animal that fits your unique lifestyle, whether you are active, have a busy household, or are looking for a calm companion. When you adopt from us, you aren't just gaining a family member; you are helping us save lives and continue our work in the community.
Ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to view our currently adoptable pets online or visit one of our Pet Adoption Centers in Los Angeles, Hawthorne, or Long Beach. Whether you choose to adopt, volunteer, or donate, your support makes a direct difference for the animals who need us most.
