At ACARF, our mission is to provide a safe, loving haven for dogs and cats who are lost, abandoned, or unwanted. We are dedicated to helping these animals recover from their past hardships and finding them the caring, responsible homes they deserve.
Established by a dedicated grassroots group, ACARF was created to provide help and hope to vulnerable animals in Southeast Kansas. Today, we operate as a nonprofit, no-kill shelter in rural La Harpe, working tirelessly to ensure that every animal in our care receives the support they need to become healthy and whole.
We are a brick-and-mortar shelter where our residents receive daily care, including vaccines, vet bills, and plenty of affection. Beyond providing a safe facility, we act as a resource for our community, offering public education and even temporary food assistance to families in need. Because we are a no-kill organization, we work endlessly to ensure our residents remain safe and comfortable while they wait for their new families.
We believe that adoption is a joyful partnership, and our thoughtful matching process ensures the best possible situation for both you and your new pet. Our adoption process is transparent and thorough, including spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, and a month of free pet insurance to give you and your new friend the best possible start. We prioritize finding the right long-term match, ensuring that our cats and dogs find the happiness they truly deserve.
We are so happy to welcome visitors back to our facility, and we invite you to stop by during our open hours to meet our adoptable animals. Whether you are ready to adopt, interested in volunteering, or want to support our mission, we would love to see you.
