The Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals in our community and beyond. We are passionate about promoting responsible pet guardianship and ensuring every animal receives the humane treatment they deserve.
Our History
Since our founding in 1974 by Sherri Delaney and Anne Tracey, DAWS has grown from a grassroots volunteer effort into a vital community resource. Today, we operate out of our shelter at 147 Grassy Plain Street in Bethel, Connecticut, where we have provided a safe haven and lifesaving care to thousands of animals for over 50 years.
How We Help
We believe in a compassionate approach to rescue, utilizing both our physical shelter facility and a network of dedicated foster homes to care for dogs and cats in need. Our on-site clinic allows us to provide essential medical care and sterilization services, helping us reduce animal overpopulation through our low-cost spay/neuter and Trap, Neuter, and Return (TNR) programs. By combining these resources, we work tirelessly to keep homeless pets safe, happy, and sheltered as they await their new beginnings.
