Our Mission
The Humane Society of the High Plains is dedicated to fostering the humane treatment of animals through education, shelter, and active community engagement. Our goal is to provide compassionate care for homeless pets as they wait to find their perfect forever families.
Our History
Our journey began in 1975 when a group of animal welfare advocates joined together in the Hays community. By 1978, we opened our first shelter, and today we continue our legacy at the Virginia Miller Animal Shelter, a facility built to serve our region with love and dedication.
How We Help
We operate as a shelter-based organization providing medical care, food, and enrichment to animals in need. Beyond day-to-day care, we educate the public on responsible pet ownership and offer facility tours to help our community better understand our work. We also collaborate with foster volunteers for animals requiring round-the-clock attention, such as orphaned kittens and puppies.
