The Humane Society of Charles County is dedicated to creating a community where animals are cherished, respected, and loved. We strive to provide life-altering care for homeless, injured, and neglected animals through adoption, fostering, community partnerships, and humane education.
Our History and Why We Serve
Our journey began in 1975 when a group of compassionate volunteers recognized that existing local resources were not enough to save our most vulnerable animals. Since our incorporation in 1979, we have operated with a deep respect for all life, working tirelessly to offer safety and support to animals that might otherwise perish without intervention.
How We Provide Care
As a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we rely entirely on the kindness of our community to operate our shelter in Waldorf, Maryland. Our dedicated staff and volunteers provide essential veterinary care, nutritious food, exercise, and plenty of love to every animal in our facility. By utilizing both our physical shelter and a dedicated foster network, we ensure that every rescue receives the specific attention needed for a successful transition into a new home.
