Our mission is to enhance the lives of pets in need and the people who care about them. We envision a community where every animal, and the relationship between people and pets, is valued and cherished.
Our History
Founded in 1975 as the Chisago County Humane Society, our organization began with dedicated volunteers caring for animals in their own homes. Today, we operate as the Northwoods Humane Society, a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has provided a permanent facility in Wyoming, Minnesota, since 2000 to better serve the growing needs of our local community.
How We Care
As a private, independent organization, we do not receive local, county, state, or federal funding; our work is made possible through community support. We operate as a limited-admissions facility, ensuring every animal receives professional care and respect while awaiting their forever home. By prioritizing transparency and compassion, we strive to find the perfect placement for every pet, whether through direct adoption, foster partnerships, or our specialized hospice program.

Because we are committed to long-term success, we spay or neuter all our animals prior to adoption, helping you start your new chapter with confidence and peace of mind.
