The Humane Society of Decatur and Macon County is dedicated to serving the animal and pet owner communities of Decatur and the surrounding Macon County area. We strive to provide a compassionate, no-kill environment for the animals in our care while supporting the people who love them.
We believe in building a stronger community by addressing the specific needs of our local animal population. Beyond our shelter services, we actively manage a TNR program—Trap-Neuter-Return—to help control and care for the feral cat population in Macon County. We also provide discount spay/neuter certificates to qualifying individuals, ensuring that quality care remains accessible to those who need it most.
Our organization is a no-kill facility, largely powered by the passion and dedication of our volunteers. We work hard every day to maintain a safe, welcoming environment for every pet that passes through our doors. By operating as a mostly volunteer-run shelter, we ensure that our resources are focused directly on the well-being and enrichment of our animals.
Finding the perfect companion is a life-changing experience for both the pet and the adopter. We invite you to view our adoptable pets and read our Happy Tails stories to see the wonderful transformations that happen when a shelter animal finds their forever home. Adopting is more than just bringing home a pet; it is welcoming a new member into your family.
We are here for you and your pet! You can visit us at 3373 N. Woodford St. in Decatur, Wednesday through Saturday, from 12 noon to 4 pm. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at 217-876-0000 or stop by during our open hours to meet our current residents.
