The Portage Animal Protective League is dedicated to the advancement of animal welfare and responsible pet ownership throughout Portage County. We strive to provide a safe, compassionate environment for every animal that comes through our doors, ensuring each receives the care and second chance they deserve.
Founded in 1955 as a grassroots organization, we have grown to become the first non-profit humane organization in Portage County. Today, we operate out of our modern facility on Infirmary Road, where we continue our original mission to prevent cruelty, uphold animal laws, and serve as a vital resource for the pets and people of our community.
We are a limited access, no time limit shelter, providing a stable haven for animals while they wait for their perfect match. Our dedicated staff and volunteers provide essential medical care, including immunizations and spay/neuter services, to rehabilitate sick, injured, and abandoned animals. We are proud to be a place where healing and transformation happen every day.
We believe in finding not just any home, but the right home for every dog and cat in our care. Our adoption process is designed to create lasting partnerships, with our staff providing guidance to help you select a pet whose personality and needs align perfectly with your family. We are here to support you throughout the journey, from your first visit to bringing your new friend home.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to browse our current list of available pets online or visit us to learn more about our adoption process. Your support through adoption or volunteering directly helps us continue our lifesaving work for the animals who need it most.
