Associated Humane Societies is dedicated to rescuing stray and homeless animals, providing them with quality care and a sanctuary until they can be united with loving families. We serve as New Jersey’s largest animal welfare organization, driven by a commitment to protect animals and promote responsible pet guardianship.
Since our founding in 1906, we have grown from humble beginnings in Newark to become a vital resource for animals across New Jersey. We operate four shelters and the unique Popcorn Park Animal Refuge, a sanctuary established in 1977 to provide a permanent home for wildlife, exotics, and farm animals that have faced injury, abandonment, or abuse.
Our shelters offer a safe haven where dogs, cats, and small animals receive comprehensive care, including medical evaluations, vaccinations, and spay/neuter services. At Popcorn Park, our sanctuary residents benefit from spacious living quarters and specialized attention tailored to their individual needs. Every day, our dedicated team works tirelessly to ensure that every animal in our care receives the kindness and support they deserve.
Adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are here to help you find the perfect match for your home and lifestyle. We take great pride in our adoption process, ensuring that every pet is microchipped and ready for their new life before they leave our doors. When you choose to adopt, you aren't just finding a pet; you are becoming part of our community and helping us continue our lifesaving mission.
Whether you are looking to open your heart to a new furry friend, want to volunteer your time, or are interested in supporting our community wellness programs, there are many ways to get involved. We invite you to browse our available adoptable pets online or visit one of our facilities to meet our wonderful animals. Your support makes it possible for us to turn stories of hardship into lives filled with love and care.
