Our Mission
Associated Humane Societies is dedicated to rescuing stray and homeless animals, providing them with quality care and a sanctuary until they can be united with loving families. We serve as New Jersey’s largest animal welfare organization, driven by a commitment to protect animals and promote responsible pet guardianship.
A Century of Compassion
Since our founding in 1906, we have grown from humble beginnings in Newark to become a vital resource for animals across New Jersey. We operate four shelters and the unique Popcorn Park Animal Refuge, a sanctuary established in 1977 to provide a permanent home for wildlife, exotics, and farm animals that have faced injury, abandonment, or abuse.

Our shelters offer a safe haven where dogs, cats, and small animals receive comprehensive care, including medical evaluations, vaccinations, and spay/neuter services. At Popcorn Park, our sanctuary residents benefit from spacious living quarters and specialized attention tailored to their individual needs.
