Our Mission
At the Animal Shelter Assistance Program (ASAP Cats), we are dedicated to saving and serving the cats of Santa Barbara County. Our mission is to provide compassionate shelter, veterinary care, behavioral support, and community outreach for every cat in our care.
Our History
Since 1989, our organization has worked to ensure that every cat has a home and every home has a cat. We proudly became the first municipal shelter in the United States to stop the killing of adoptable cats for the purpose of population control, and we have remained committed to that goal for over 30 years.
How We Care for Cats
We provide a comprehensive range of services including adoption and foster programs, feline education, and community-wide support like our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) initiatives. Our dedicated shelter environment, supported by 200+ volunteers, offers medical evaluations and behavioral support to help our feline friends transition successfully into their new lives.

There is a home for every cat, and we invite you to join our mission. Explore our list of adoptable cats, consider fostering, or visit our shelter to meet your new best friend; we are open Monday through Thursday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and Saturdays from 11:00am to 3:00pm. Together, we can continue to provide second chances and loving homes for our local cats.
