Our mission is to promote responsible animal ownership, prevent the spread of animal disease, and protect both the public and our animals. We believe every animal deserves a second chance, and we are dedicated to providing a safe, compassionate environment for them until they find their perfect forever homes.

Led by Director Lorna Shelton, our facility serves as a vital safe haven for the animals of Effingham County. With over 30 years of experience in animal welfare, our leadership and dedicated staff work tirelessly to ensure each pet receives professional care and support. We are excited for the future, as we look forward to a full facility renovation in 2026 to modernize our services and better serve our community and its pets.

Our shelter operations are built on a foundation of professional care, behavior support, and community engagement. While we operate our own shelter, we also collaborate with the community through specialized initiatives like our Barn Cat Program and by supporting local rescue partners for fostering needs. These partnerships help us maximize our resources and ensure that more animals get the personalized attention they need to thrive.
