At the Humane Society of Sumter County, our mission is simple: we are dedicated to saving lives and improving the welfare of animals in our community. We promote the health and well-being of local animals while providing compassionate education and support to the people who care for them.

Forty Years of Compassion

Since our founding in 1982, we have served as a nonprofit charitable organization sustained by the generosity of individuals, businesses, and foundations. Over more than four decades, we have evolved from a small group of volunteers into a dedicated team working to provide a second chance for injured, abused, unwanted, or orphaned animals.

Our Care Model

We believe that every animal deserves a safe, loving environment while they wait for their forever family. Our campus in Lake Panasoffkee is designed to provide comprehensive care, including medical treatments, socialization, and regular playgroups for dogs to help them thrive during their stay. We also utilize a critical foster program that allows pets to receive temporary care in home environments until they are ready for adoption.
