Our mission is to feed the hungry, heal the sick, and provide a safe, temporary haven for the homeless, abused, and neglected animals of the Kankakee Area. We believe every companion animal deserves a second chance at a happy life.

Our Journey and Commitment

Since 2012, River Valley Animal Rescue has been dedicated to placing hundreds of animals into permanent, loving homes. As a registered non-profit, we are proud to operate as a no-kill shelter, ensuring that every healthy or treatable animal receives the care and time they need until their furever home arrives.

Providing Specialized Care

We believe in the power of specialized environments to enrich the lives of animals in our care. Our operations include a dedicated shelter in Momence, the River Valley Cat Oasis—a storefront location designed for human interaction—and our River Valley Pet Resort. We operate entirely through donations and proceeds from our resale shop, Caesar's Palace, relying on a passionate community of volunteers to make our work possible.

Our adoption process is designed to ensure the best possible match for your lifestyle, which may include home visits or short trial periods. Because we are a limited admission facility, we carefully evaluate each pet’s needs to foster long-term success.
