Our Mission
The Animal Defense League of Texas (ADL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. We provide medical treatment, nutrition, and shelter in a safe, live-release environment until every pet is matched with their perfect forever family.
Our History and Community
Incorporated in 1934 to prevent animal cruelty, ADL has evolved into San Antonio’s oldest no-kill shelter. We focus our efforts on saving the lives of vulnerable pets, primarily those originating from the most poverty-stricken communities in San Antonio.
How We Care
We operate two facilities: our 12-acre Nacogdoches main campus and the city-owned Paul Jolly Center for Pet Adoptions. Our main campus includes a full veterinary hospital, where we provide spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, and specialized medical care to ensure our animals are healthy and ready for their new homes.
