Since 1981, Last Hope, Inc. has been dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of stray, abandoned, and death-due pound animals. We strive to give every animal a second chance at a loving, permanent home.
Founded by two animal advocates, Last Hope has grown from a small operation into a community-driven organization with over 600 volunteers. For 45 years, we have worked to reduce the overpopulation of cats and dogs on Long Island through proactive rescue and community education.
We operate a central Adoption Center in Wantagh where cats and dogs wait for their families in a safe, nurturing environment. Our mission extends beyond our walls, as we partner with local municipal shelters and manage impactful programs like Fix-A-Feral to help community cats. Every animal in our care is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and health-checked before finding a forever home.
We believe that every adoption is the start of a joyful, lifelong partnership. Our dedicated team carefully evaluates each animal’s personality to ensure the best possible match for your home and lifestyle. We are here to support you throughout the process, providing guidance and resources to make your transition with your new pet a success.
Are you ready to change a life? We invite you to visit our Wantagh Adoption Center, browse our available cats and dogs online, or learn more about our volunteer and foster programs. Together, we can ensure every animal on Long Island is wanted, loved, and part of a responsible, happy home.
