The Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for companion animals in our region by promoting better futures for pets and their people. We believe in creating lasting, compassionate bonds that enrich the lives of both the animals in our care and the families who welcome them home.
Founded in 1891, we are proud to be the oldest non-profit animal welfare organization in our region and one of the oldest continuously operating organizations of our kind in the country. For over 135 years, we have served our community by providing a safe haven for animals in need and offering vital resources to the people who love them.
We operate as a dedicated animal shelter, providing medical care, behavioral support, and a loving environment for animals while they wait for their forever families. Beyond our shelter walls, we actively serve our community through affordable spay/neuter clinics, vaccination services, and a pet food pantry designed to help keep pets and their people together during times of financial hardship.
We believe every adoption is a joyful partnership, and our team works hard to get to know each animal's personality, quirks, and needs. Our thorough, friendly adoption process is designed to create the best possible match for your household, ensuring a successful transition for you and your new companion. We are here to guide you every step of the way, from that first meet-and-greet to welcoming your pet home.
Are you ready to find your next family member? We invite you to browse our current list of adoptable cats and dogs or reach out to our team to learn more about our shelter services. We can’t wait to help you start your next chapter together.
