Our mission is simple but profound: to Save, Alter, Adopt, Vaccinate, and Vet. We are dedicated to rescuing felines and canines and giving them the healthy, loving start they deserve.
Founded in 1975, the Cherokee Humane Society has spent nearly fifty years rescuing thousands of animals from shelters and uncaring situations. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that receives no government funding, our lifesaving efforts are powered entirely by the generous contributions of our community and the vital income from our Thrift Store.
We believe every animal deserves a comfortable environment while waiting for their forever family. Because we do not operate a traditional shelter, our dogs and puppies are kept in loving foster homes, which allows us to maximize their adoptability and personality compatibility. Every animal in our care is fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and vaccinated before they are ready to meet you.
Adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are here to help you find the perfect match for your home and lifestyle. We partner with local retailers like PetSmart and Petco to host regular adoption events, providing a welcoming space for you to meet our available rescues. We are proud to facilitate connections that change lives—both for the pets we rescue and the families who open their hearts to them.
Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer your time, or support us through a donation, you are an essential part of our mission. Visit our Thrift Store in Woodstock, check out our current adoptable dogs and cats online, or reach out to us to learn about becoming a foster family. Together, we can continue our work to save lives and create happy endings for animals in need.
